News Release, March 13, 2024: The Dowagiac Union Board of Education moved one step closer to hiring a new superintendent this week. The Board initially interviewed four candidates: Brandon Waggoner, Director of Curriculum in Watervliet; Dr. Daniel Hyliard, Class Principal in Ann Arbor; Ryan Williamson, High School Principal in South Haven; and Greg Blomgren, High School Principal in St. Joseph. The Board decided to invite two candidates back for a second interview. The interviews will be held on Thursday, March 21. Mr. Waggoner will interview at 5:30 pm and Mr. Blomgren will interview at 7:00 pm. The interviews will be held at the Dowagiac City Hall Council Chambers, 241 S. Front St., Dowagiac. The public is welcome to attend. Candidates will tour the district prior to the final interviews. The new superintendent is anticipated to begin their duties on July 1.
The Board of Education will hold its Regular Meeting, on Monday, March 18, 2024, in the PAC at Dowagiac Middle School at 6:00 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

The Dowagiac Union Schools Board of Education is moving forward in the selection of a new superintendent. Sixteen educators applied for the position. The Board reviewed the applications and has invited four educators to be interviewed. The process has been facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.
The interviews will be held on March 12 and 13. All interviews will be held at the Chambers of Commerce, City Hall, 241 S. Front Street, Dowagiac, Michigan. Interviews are open to the public.
The interview schedule is as follows:
March 12 at 5:30 pm: Brandon Waggoner, Director of Curriculum in Watervliet
March 12 at 7:00 pm: Dr. Daniel Hyliard, Class Principal in Ann Arbor
March 13 at 5:30 pm: Ryan Williamson, High School Principal in South Haven
March 13 at 7:00 pm: Greg Blomgren, High School Principal in St. Joseph
The superintendent position became available as Jonathan Whan announced his retirement for the end of this school year. He has served the district admirably for five years in this position. The Board anticipates the new superintendent will begin duties on July 1.
The Board of Education will hold a Special Board Meeting, on Thursday February 29, 2024, in the Council Chambers at Dowagiac City Hall at 5:00p.m for the purpose of reviewing applications for the Superintendent position. The meeting is open to the public.
