GREAT JOB CHIEFTAIN ARTISTS!
Students in Mrs. Marrs 7th-Grade Healthy Living class are working on a frisbee unit in PE. Students are improving their throwing, catching, and hitting a target by playing games such as Uno, Dos, Tres and Disc Slam. These skills will lead up to a miniature indoor disc golf game later in the unit. Learning while playing is always gratifying!
ATTENTION: All girls wanting to play 7th or 8th grade basketball for DMS this season. Practices will begin after school on Monday, February 8th from 2:45-4:30pm in the DMS gym. Good luck Lady Chieftains!
Mrs. Solloway's 7th Grade Science students learned about cells and cellular processes using DIGITAL ESCAPE ROOMS. Students had to race against the clock, by answering questions correctly, to crack the code to escape successfully!
8th grade students in Mrs. Cummings's Science class are exploring astronomy by observing the different variables that effect crater sizes. "To infinity and beyond!"
Mr. Schuchardt's 7th grade Science students are working with measurements to solve a virtual crime. Good luck 7th grade sleuths!
This week, 8th grade Pre-Algebra students are learning how to solve linear equations. Pictured is Mr. Hackett working with one of his students finding a solution to a problem. Keep up the good effort students!!!

Greetings Chieftain families,
This is just a friendly reminder we are going to be returning to in-person instruction on Monday, January 11th. For your convenience, doors will be open at 7:20 am.
Teachers are asking all students to bring their school issued Chromebooks (fully charged), charging cables, textbooks and other materials with them when we return.

While we had in-person learning, students in Mr. Bridges STEM class had fun with hands on learning! They made pens, signs, and 3D printed ornaments.

Some families have communicated they are experiencing intermittent outages using Schoology today. We are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it. Please encourage your child, if they are experiencing this problem, to log back into their teacher's conference and check for messages in their Schoology classrooms for updates on where they will meet during their 7th hours.

Attention parents/guardians of all 6th grade girls!! Below is an update concerning the Little Chieftains girls youth basketball program from Coach Turner.
Little Chieftains Youth Basketball Update
I have had a lot of parents asking about the Little Chieftains Youth Basketball program that was started last year. This is usually the time of year when we start our registrations for the program. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic has presented a number of challenges that make it infeasible to run the program this winter.
It really breaks my heart that we are not going to be able to make the league work this year due to health and safety concerns, but that does not mean that it will not return next year. It will come back even stronger! This Youth League allows us to build our Dowagiac Girls Basketball program and provides the youth of our city the chance to build a love for basketball.
In place of the Little Chieftains Youth Basketball League, we plan to hold extra basketball camps this summer. We usually have one week of camps in the summer for kids, but we will plan to have extra weeks this coming summer. Those dates and times will be coming out at a later date. This information will likely be released closer to the end of the school year, so please keep your eyes open for a letter coming home about these basketball camps. Also, go like the Dowagiac Girls Basketball facebook page. Throughout the winter we will upload some videos of drills you can do to improve your basketball skills.

Greetings DMS Chieftain Families,
We want to inform you that your child’s report card has been mailed home along with their results from this year’s Fall NWEA benchmark assessment.
We also wanted to make you aware that a few families may see a “Semester” grade located on their child’s report card instead of the typical “1st Quarter” grade. This was a system error that impacted only a couple classes. We apologize for any confusion this might cause and are working to correct it. For those impacted, the grade indicated reflects the work completed through the 1st Card Marking.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
