Dowagiac Union Schools will participate in the "Schools of Choice" program for the first semester of the 2025-26 academic year. Students residing in contiguous intermediate school districts within Michigan may apply for admission to Dowagiac Union Schools without needing permission from their home school district. Once admitted, students are permitted to remain enrolled until graduation. Additionally, future admission preference will be granted to siblings of students who have already been accepted under the "Schools of Choice" initiative.

Student athletes should be aware of the MHSAA regulations involving “Schools of Choice” transfer.  A sport-specific transfer rule has been adopted and took effect the 2019-20 school year.  The revised rule means a transfer student has:

1. No eligibility for the upcoming season in a spot actually played the previous season in that sport at the student’s former high school during the most recent previous school year. (Unless one of the 15 MHSAA exceptions apply).

2. A student would be eligible in sports they did not participate in during the previous or current school year.

Students’ sport participation during the 2024-25 school year will determine their eligibility for 2025-26 should they transfer schools and not meet one of the 15 stated exceptions.  This rule applies to high school students GRADES 9-12 only.

Dowagiac Union Schools will have limited openings available, these will be posted on April 11, 2025.
